OUT OF SCHOOL CLUBS

Out of School Clubs

Holiday Club

8am – 3pm

Our holiday club runs out of term time, during most of the school holidays. This is typically with the exception of the last week of August (during the Summer holidays) and Christmas/New Year week. Due to our location, we are able to use the school facilities, including the playground and sports field, and therefore can offer extensive outdoor activities.

We accept children aged 2-9 years and we are open daily, between 8.00am and 3.00pm.

Our activity programme changes daily and is carefully planned for the different age groups. We have a range of activities throughout the day and aim to maximise choice for the children. These include;

  • Forest School activities
  • Zoo Lab and Farm visits
  • Cooking activities
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Teddy Tennis
  • Team games, football and a selection of ride on’s.

The children are provided with a nutritious snack both in the morning and afternoon, along with a drink.

For lunch you are required to provide your children with a packed lunch from home. Please note, to protect our children and staff with severe allergies, we are a NUT FREE setting and all of the children’s lunch bags are checked daily for nut products. Drinking water is available at all times, throughout the sessions and is also provided at lunch club.

You are requested to book and pay in advance to secure a place in our Holiday Club, as numbers are limited.

Lunch Club

Toddington Childcare & Forest School is a Healthy Eating Pre-School. We encourage the children to live healthy lifestyles by keeping them active and ensuring they eat a balanced and nutritious diet whilst in our care.
Lunch time is a very important time at Pre-school, the children sit down together at the table to eat their lunch. This promotes their social development as they talk to one another about what they have been doing and what they have in their lunch box. The children are also encouraged to wash their hands before lunch.

If your child attends our Lunch Club it would be much appreciated if you could bear in mind:
  • Your child’s lunch box needs to be clearly named on the outside of the lunch box with his/her name.
  • We do not have the facility to put lunch boxes into the fridge. If your child’s lunch box contains yoghurts or any other chilled food products you may like to put a freezer block into their lunch box to ensure the food stays fresh.
  • Please do not over fill your child’s lunch box.
  • Healthy foods is important and should include a portion of fruit or vegetable in your child’s lunch box.
  • That grapes and cherry tomatoes need to be cut in half if your child has these in their lunch bags due to choking hazards.
Please DO NOT include the following items in your child’s lunch box:
  • Any products containing NUTS or ‘May contain peanuts or tree nuts’. We have children and staff at our setting with allergies to nuts. A child/adult may suffer an anaphylactic reaction if he/she eats nuts or products containing nuts or if it is air born. If this occurs they are likely to need medical attention and, in an extreme situation, their condition may be life threatening.
  • Drink bottles – We provide milk and water throughout the day and lunch times.
  • No sweets or chocolate.

Keeping a Packed Lunch Box Fresh

It is important to keep food that is packed in a lunch box cold to inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria. This can be done by including a small freezer block or freeze a bottle of water and pop it in their lunch box to keep cool.

Top Tips for a Healthy Lunch Box

  • Always include fresh fruit and vegetables. If you vary the selection this will keep the children interested.
  • Offer a variety of whole grain breads, rolls, pitta bread and flat breads.
  • Use reduced fat dairy foods. Cheese and yoghurts are ideal.
  • Ensure you include lean meat, egg or tuna as children need a portion of protein at lunchtime.

Helpful Tips for Adding Fresh Fruit and Vegetables to Lunch Boxes

  • Offer different seasonal fruits each day for a change in flavour, colour and texture.
  • Fruit to be cut and ready to eat. Fruit salad is ideal as it is colourful, easy to eat and is bursting with vitamins.
  • If adding tomatoes to sandwiches, place the tomato between fillings and not directly onto the bread as this prevents the bread becoming soggy.
  • Use a vegetable peeler to slice cucumber into ribbons for sandwich fillings.
